The education that Marie Rivier aimed at is, in a word, the education of heart, or the education for the salvation of souls. Her principle is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, his spirit, and his way of living. The educators and the educated, she says, should conform their value judgment to that of Jesus Christ. From this point of view, therefore, she insists upon the sanctification of the educators as well as their edification and their life of prayer. This thesis is no more than a study of her principle of education; but I shall be happy if it can bring out what is at the base of our college education, and can throw some light upon the problems of education said to be devastated these days.
