Early Application of Buprenorphine Suppository Relieves Pain after Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Postoperative pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy is considered to be mild, however, it is not well understood whether the special postoperative analgesic method for laparoscopic surgery is necessary or not. To establish a method for postoperative analgesia, we investigated postoperative pain scale in 30 patients with and without buprenorphine suppository. They were randomly divided into three groups: 1) control group (n=10); no analgesics during anesthesia, 2) BSP 0.2 group (n=10); buprenorphine suppository 0.2 mg after the induction of anesthesia and dicrofenac suppository 50 mg at the end of surgery in the operating room, 3) BSP 0.4 group (n=10); buprenorphine suppository 0.4 mg after the induction of anesthesia. In the patients with buprenorphine, pain scale was mild and the number of administration of analgesics was much less during 24 hours than that of control group. There were 10 patients who received analgesics after surgery in the control, 2 in the BSP 0.2 and 3 in the BSP 0.4 groups. We conclude that postoperative pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy is not mild and early application of buprenorphine suppository before surgery reduces postoperative pain.
