This study investigated the connection between the number of times primary school children visited the school clinic and the level of their adaptation to school-life and of their self-awareness. The tests were carried out on 179 primary school children using scales of adaptation and self-awareness carefully selected by two primary school teachers. The following results were obtained. The less pleasant the children found their experience of school-life and the more negative their feelings about themselves became, the more often they visited the school clinic for no good reason. In proportion as their sense of cheerfulness increased, so did the incidence of their visits to the clinic to have their cuts and bruises treated. These results showed that the school clinic has an additional advantage over and above those for which it was originally intended, i.e. that children use it as a means of substituting physical for psychological ailments.
