The use of a highly active progestin, R5020, as a tag has demonstrated that in ovariectomized estrogen-primed rats progesterone binds to a specific 7 S hypothalamic cytosol receptor and that 9 S progesterone-receptor complex is present in the cell nuclei of this brain tissue. The 9 S complex was heatlabile and protein in nature.
