1. This paper demonstrates the participation of intestinal flora in determining concentrations of amino acids in intestines, using conventional, antibiotic-treated and Clostridium butyricum-infected rats. 2. The amounts of total amino acids in intestines of antibiotic-treated rats were about 2.6 and 1.9 times higher than those in conventional and Clostridium butyricum-infected rats, respectively. 3. The amounts of all kinds of essential amino acids in conventional and Clostridium butyricum-infected rats were considerably lower than those in antibiotic-treated rats. 4. The amounts of non-essential amino acids in conventional and Clostridium butyricum-infected rats were also in general lower than those in antibiotic treated rats, with the exception of aspartate and glutamine and of ornithine and taurine, in conventional and Clostridium butyricum-infected rats, respectively.
