This study is based on an investigation of people in their 70s who play golf regularly in comparison with non-golfers of the same age group. I made a survey of their physical characteristics, health condition, and past experience playing other sports. I also measured increases in their heart rate and quantity of motion by walking using a pedometer. This sample was taken from 41 golfers and 60 non-golfers. I made this survey and measurement during a two months period from September to October 1997. As a result I reached the following conclusions : 1) Concerning increases in heart rate, it ranged between 68 and 136 for golfers. 2) There was a clear correlation between scores of golfers and the quantity of motion by walking during a round. When they got high scores, They walked less than usual. 3) Golfers were hospitalized less than non-golfers. In addition, less of them suffered from high blood pressure than non-golfers. 4) There were more golfers who stopped smoking than non-golfers. 5) Both golfers and non-golfers tended to exercise less during the snow season. 6) Most golfers had experience playing other sports when they were young. It was revealed that they exercise more during their 50s, 60s. These people make the most of their motors which were trained past. 7) More golfers continue their job in comparison with non-golfers.
