It is very important to develop the students' listening, speaking, reading and writing ability in studying foreign language. In order to develop these abilities, I gave them assignments. One was to have them make a short speech in class. It was rather difficult for the Japanese students to write a short speech. In order to find the cause of this difficulty, I tried to examine Japanese students' problems in writing Chinese sentences. By analyzing their errors in their papers I concluded that the Japanese students' main causes of errors are that sentences are incomplete and meanings are unclear; words are not collocated properly, unequivocal terms are not used, word orders are incorrect, writing forms are improper, paragraphs are not well organized, there are grammatical errors and Chinese characters and punctuation marks are misused. These errors are affected by the students' mother tongues. It also means that they should be encouraged to acquire more vocabularies and fundamental knowledge about the language structure in order to write more correct Chinese sentences. It is important for students to have intellectual excitement during classes. In their paper I would like to mention a method of teaching in which educational problems can be examined.
