This study explored the verb usage in learner corpus: written products of high school and technical college students. The corpus consisted of four genres: essay, storymaking, researches, and LOCNESS, which was a corpus of argumentative essays written by native speakers in 3^<rd> and 4^<th> grade in colleges. The result showed interference from L1 (Japanese Katakana), more intransitive verbs than transitive verbs, and other characteristics in verb usage. They indicated aru, naru dependency and limited meanings of basic verbs in SVO syntax. Native speakers made use of far much larger number of transitive verbs than Japanese learners, especially in mental description.
