The largest number of warehouses is headquartered in Kobe, followed by Tokyo and Osaka. Their main operators are warehousing and/or port transport businesses. Shippers are largely headquartered in Tokyo, but Kobe and Osaka have a considerable share. They are mostly commercial firms, followed by makers. Major items stored are dominantly foodstuff. They originate abroad, being shipped to and discharged at Kobe. After being stored in the warehouse, they are distributed to factories, retailers and wholesalers nationwide as well as those in the Western Japan and Kansai. The type of storage is mostly one in transit, while another type is centered in storage, with distribution type existing in a considerable number.
