Bivalve and scaphopod specimens collected alive from the shelf, slope and bathyal zones in the waters around Nansei Islands (Osumi, Satsunan and Amami Groups and Okinawa Islands) were investigated. They were dredged and/or trawled by the R/V Tansei-Maru, T/S Toyoshio-Maru, R/V Yoko-Maru and a chartered tugboat Daiyu-Maru during the years 2002 and 2003. Among them four new species were discribed: Parvamussium toyoshiomaruae n. sp., Musculus nipponicus, n. sp., Bonartemis amamiensis n. sp., and Rhomboxiphus compressimus n. sp. Three species were discovered for the first time from Japanese waters: Leionucula sansibarensis (Thiele & Jaeckel, 1931), Ledella (Prashadid) procumbens (Prashad, 1932), and Vertambitus affinis (Thiele & Jaeckel, 1931). Live specimen of Crassatellites quadratus Noda, 1980 and Glans quadriangulata (Nomura & Zinbo, 1934), which had been originally described from fossils from Shinzanto Formation, Okinawajima Island, and Ryukyu Limestone, Kikaijima Island, respectively, were discovered for the first time in the present material. There are several interesting range extension records, both geographical and bathymetrical.
