Polychaetous annelids from around Nansei Islands through the research project conducted during 1999-2004 by the National Science Museum, Tokyo, are examined taxonomically. A total of 88 species and three indeterminable species in 27 families of polychaetes are recognized. Two species are new to science: Aphrodita daiyumaruae (Aphroditidae) and Sigalion lituus (Sigalionidae). Nine species are new to the Japanese polychaetous fauna: Aphrogenia nigropunctata and Laetmonice dolichoceras (Aphroditidae), Iphione treadwelli (Polynoidae), Labiosthenolepis laevis, Pottsipelogenia gracilis and Sthenelais helenae (Sigalionidae), Glycera russa and Glyceretta magellanica (Glyceridae) and Pherecardia striata (Amphinomidae). The best-represented families are: Syllidae (9 spp.), Eunicidae (9), Aphroditidae (7), Sigalionidae (7), Nereididae (6) and Onuphidae (6).
