This paper aims to study gender by analyzing the Thai kinship terms "ph〓i (older sibling)" and "n〓c〓 (younger sibling)" that are used as references, addresses, and pronouns between men and women in various kinds of relationship seen in everyday life, literature, short stories, poems,love songs, and scenarios. It has been found that the terms "ph〓i" and "n〓c〓" which are used between lovers, betrotheds, and the like, as well as between husband and wife, connote unequal relationship between men and women in the Thai society in the sense that men are superior in power to women, for men use "phii" to refer to themselves and receive the address "ph〓i" from women, while women are never addressed "ph〓i" by men whether or not there is a difference in age or social status between the two sexes.
