• The selection and gradation of Japanese elementary sentence patterns are the problems which have never been discussed much in Japanese language pedagogy. There is no conforming Framework like in the primary and secondary education of Japan. As for the selection of necessary teaching items for the elementary level, the Japanese language teachers roughly agree with these grammatical items. However, they do not necessarily consent with the gradation of the items. This paper discusses what kind of grammatical item should be introduced after a certain sentence pattern.
