In the present paper the authors dealt with the germination, growth of seedling and cripple formation resulted from the irradiation of purposely raised high exposure dose of gamma-ray (^<60>Co) to the seeds of rape, soya-bean and leaf-nodular plants. 1. In a radiation source cylinder the γ-ray of ^<60>Co was irradiated to the seeds in polyethylene bags. The experiments were practised twice : the first irradiation was carried out at a dose rate of 3, 000γ/min for 2-30 minutes and exposured corresponding to the dose range of 6, 000-90, 000γ, the second was practised with 10, 000γ/min for the same time and gave 20, 000 - 300, 000γ, respectively. 2. After the irradiation, germination and growth experiments on rape were held under room temperature (20±5℃) but in later in order to put them in an equal condition they were placed in a refrigerator (10±2℃). 3. When exposured the rape seeds to the dose range of 6, 000 - 90, 000γ, their germination was most accelerated with 30, 000γ, but with the other exposure doses it was either inferior than that or was inhibited. With 90, 000γ an exhibiting effect of germination was observed in considerable extent. The growth of seedlings which was started from the irradiated seeds indicated almost the same tendency on the germination in the initial period of growth, but in later the effects of irradiation gradually faded away and approached to the control. 4. When increased the exposure dose of radioactive ray to the dose range of 20, 000 - 300, 000γ, not only almost no promotion of germination and growth was allowed but they were inhibited proportionally to the exposure doses. Particularly there was a considerable inhibiting effect on which were irradiated with 200, 000γ and 300, 000γ. From these results we able to suggest that the minimum dose of which can affect to the germination of rape seed may be 5, 000γ or less than this, and the maximum dose for it is 500, 000γ or a little more. 5.
