• This paper examines the problems of elderly people as presented in the Yomiuri Shimbun column "Troubleshooter", with a focus on interpersonal problems. People who write to the newspaper for advice often seem in urgent need of an answer. As the advice givers are limited to only a few lines in the column, they often seem not to pay much attention to the particular problems of elderly people. In order to better advise elderly people it is essential to have an understanding of the situations surrounding their problems.
