Recently, L. N. G. tanks have been constructed in various places and the use of steel pipe pile for the foundation of the tank has been gradually increased. This study surveys how to make the weight of steel pipe pile economical on the basis of the parameters of the diameter of pile and the coefficient of soil reaction based on the loading data and the geological surveying data in the site of a construction base of L. N. G. (where the foundation of tank is a ground type with double concreate deck slab). The weight of pile is determined by the parametric calculations performed concerning the allowable stress in slabs and piles under several conditions. It is clear that the weight of piles is mostly governed by the normal bearing stress of upper slab concreate when the coefficient of soil reaction is over 0.3 kg/cm^3. Accordingly, both the increase of coefficient of soil reaction by ground stabilization and the decrease of the normal bearing stress of upper slab by technical improvement of connection between pile and slab are essential to the economical design of the steel pipe pile foundation.
