This paper describes two-phase induction motor drive which is more inexpensive than the conventional three-phase induction motor drive, by using an inverter system because two-phase induction motor can be controlled by a simplified bridge inverter with only four switches. The author proposes a new PWM method, which decides PWM patterns so that the integration of each phase voltage will follow the function of 1-cos (θ). This method simplifies the control circuits. Furthermore, the output of the system is not affected by the pulsating components on the dc input voltage. This means that the capacity of the dc input condenser can be reduced to the minimum value. In this paper, the algorithm of the proposed PWM method is explained. The control system is manufactured by way of trial and the experimental data are shown.
