The Lower Miocene formations of the Daijima Stage cover the underlying Miocene deposits with unconformity in the Dewa Hills and with conformity in the Backbone Ranges at the southern part of Akita Prefecture. The relation of the sedimentary rocks of the Daijima stage with the underlying formation in the Yuzawa area is an unconformity in the west that grades eastwards into a conformity. The lack of sediments at the unconformity in the western part of the area increases westwards owing to the upheaval of the terrain preceding the deposition of the sediments of the Daijima Stage. A continuous marine sequence is found in the eastern area and the marine sediments cover the non-marine formations with para-unconformity in the western area. The field evidence points to local uplift of the Dewa Hills before the sedimentation of the formations of Daijima Stage during the transgression covering the Green Tuff region of Northeast Honshu.
