A statistical analysis of the experimental results of conventional fatigue test for mechanical structural materials showing fatigue limit and those showing no fatigue limit, and of the life test results for rolling machine elements have been carried out. A new S-N/P-S-N (Probability-S-N) curve model using a new linear regression method and the Weibull distribution function with a fatigue limit as the forth parameter are proposed and various calculated results are closely examined. Essentially, the nature of fatigue life is similar in both structural materials and the materials for rolling machine elements. But in case of ductile materials the fatigue limit appears, whereas no fatigue limit appears for hardened bearing steels used for rolling machine elements. It can therefore be concluded that even though a minimum life appears in case of life distribution of rolling machine elements, the fatigue limit does not appear.
