Pneumatic pressure in drain produced by discharge flow is constantly in a state of vibration. In response seal in trap also vibrates and causes seal loss. In evaluating the performance of traps, this induced siphonage should be regarded as a vibration phenomenon. In this study we have been concerned with establishing a practical evaluation method for the performance of traps. For this purpose we have experimentally applied pneumatic pressure reproduced with a device using an actuator to P traps and S traps, and analyzed the vibration patterns between pneumatic pressure and seal. We have also conducted free vibration tests in which rectangular model traps were evaluated for the natural frequency and the influence of return water in order to elucidate the condition of vibration flow.
