The effect of natural ageing on properties after subsecuent artificial ageing was investigated in Al-1.5% Mg_2Si alloys by means of resistivity and hardness measurements. The stableness of G. P. Zones was studied by heating the alloys for the reversion after natural ageing or artificial ageing. It was recognized that G. P. Zones of the alloys were very stable and retained at the artificial ageing temperatures. The results were correlated with the stableness of G. P. Zones. The conclusion has been reached that the unfavourable effect of natural ageing on mechanical properties after artificial ageing is caused by the stable and retained G. P. Zones during the subsequent artificial ageing.
