It is ascertained that when a striker, collides with beam-type buffers, for example bumpers or guard rails which have almost constant rigidity, the impact sensitivity of the striker at the first stage varies considerably by the difference of some typical shapes of cross section. Especially the shape of cross section with a flat contact face has more influence on the decrease of the impact sensitivity at the first stage than that with a sharp contact face. As to the impact sensitivity (acceleration) at the first stage, the shape of cross section of beam-type bumpers is preferable to avoid a sharp contact edge and to have a flat contact face and a sandwich construction, because the impact sensitivity of the sandwich beam is below the half of that of the hat-type beam which has a flat contact face and the same rigidity.
