Original sin is an important concern for Christian Education. If one thinks that one of the responsibilities of education is to build character, one is obliged to confront the problems of original sin. However, how can one deal with them through educational care? The problems are so hard to solve that St. Paul bewailed his own misery saying "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death ?" St. Paul found his solution in the redemption of Jesus Christ. This shows us that education itself must be part of the attempt to build character in people who are under the control of sin. One must ask who is able to complete the educational aim of forming the character of children without the support of evangelical care. In this short article, the our main concern is to examine how the pioneers of Christioan Education in Japan saw the problems of the original sin of their students when they tried to begin their educational mission in Christian-centere colleges.
