Sulfamide absorbs an appreciable amount of ammonia, which can, however, be easily released when the vapor pressure is lowered or when heat is added. The authors noticed this phenomenon and studied the absorbability of ammonia in sulfamide with an intention of utilizing it as an absorbent of ammonia. The absorption of ammonia was measured at -30〜20℃ after diluting it with nitrogen to several degrees of concentration. The results are shown in the following table. [table] The authors also examined sulfamide's absorbabilities of other types of gases, such as nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur di-oxide and carbon di-oxide, and found that sulfamide does not absorb these gases. From these results we propose to say that sulfamide absorbs only ammonia. Furthermore, a porous alumina brick was tested as a holding material of sulfamide, when sulfamide is liquefied to facilitate absorbing ammonia. It was found that the alumina brick holds well the liquefied sulfamide, and the alumina brick which contains sulfamide efficiently absorbs ammonia.
