MAGNETISM OF AMORPHOUS AND LIQUID STATES OF RAPIDLY QUENCHED METALLIC ALLOYS

In order to understand the magnetic structure of amorphous ferromagnetic metallic alloys fabricated by rapid quenching, a systematic study of saturation magnetization and susceptibility has been made in the temperature range from 77 to 1620K. The Curie point of the amorphous state T_c (Am) is compared and discussed with (H)_p (L) (paramagnetic Curie point) obtained by linear extrapolation of inverse susceptibility vs T curve. (H)_p (L) for Fe_<100-x> B_x is found to be nearly equal to T_c (Am) for x less than 21, but not for x〓21 at%. For Co-B alloys, T_c (Am) is between the two values of (H)_p (L) on heating and cooling. Ni-B alloys exhibit Pauli-para magnetism for both amorphous and crystalline states. For Fe_<80>P_<13> C_7, alloys, T_c (Am) is higher than H_p (L), but equal to H_p of (Fe_2P+L). T_c (Am) of Fe-Ni-Si-B alloys, which exhibits paramagnetism at T less than T_<cry>. of amorphous alloys, is about H_p (L) These results imply that the structure of the amorphous states is closely related to the presence of the intermetallic compounds constituted of the amorphous alloys.
