A thermodynamic consideration was made of the shape of γ-field in the phase diagram of iron alloys. The atomic fraction of solute, x_B, in the so-called allotropic phase boundary is given by x_B={〓F_B-〓F_A+〓_w±√<(〓F_B-〓F_A+〓_w)^2+4〓w〓F_A>}/2〓_W, where 〓F_A and 〓F_B are the energy differences between γ- and α-phase for pure Fe and pure solute, respectively, and 〓w is the difference in interchange energy between γ- and α-alloy. The shape of the allotropic phase boundary was determined by the two parameters, 〓F_B and 〓w. The theory was applied to Fe-Cr, Fe-Ti and Fe-Co system, and consistencies with experimental diagrams were obtained with regard to Fe-Cr and Fe-Co system. For Fe-Ti system, however, extremely high values of 〓F_B and 〓W are required to interpret the experimental γ-loop.
