Rhodobaclllus palustris cultured in a liquid medium shows that it has a complicated life cycle. This bacterium is a motile rod-shape one with monotrichic flagellum, and multiplies by binary fission as usual. When it is inoculated in a medium, it begins, as time passes, the formation of conjugation capsule (named by me) at its end by a plasmolysis-like-phenomenon, and the conjugation capsule is vacuolate and swollen a little. Now the form of bacterium looks like a drum-stick. Some conjugate each other by conjugation capsule into a radial-ray formed group ("Die Strahlenformige Zellgruppe"), and make sediments in the medium because of their non-motile. The protoplasm of each individual will coagulate into a globoid, and then divide into two. Thereafter, each individual also divides into two, seperating from the radial-ray formed group. The protoplasm of bacteria behave itself like meiosis. That is; in the first division, dprotoplasm-rest is set free, and in the 2nd division, protoplasm divides into two, and thereby each protoplasm is condensed into nuclear-1 ike-substance and be-comes the origin of spore. This spore has both durability and germination-capacity. The period of the life cycle of this bacteria is 10-12 days at the longest.
