The present authors conducted an interview to 11 Kanazawa University undergraduate students from China, Korea and Malaysia to obtain data for the revision of the Japanese Language Program (Kanazawa University Integrated Japanese Course), which is scheduled to start in the fall semester of 2005. This interview is specially aimed at finding the needs specific to international students at the undergraduate level. The following points were investigated : 1) Did they pass all the classes they took? If not, why? 2) What are the difficulties in studying at Japanese universities? 3) How are they trying to overcome those difficulties? 4) How do they evaluate the Japanese classes and what do they expect from them? The following are the main findings : 1) They do have difficulties in studying, feel that their Japanese ability is not enough and wish for its improvement. 2) University can remove some of those difficulties in studying through measures such as setting more flexible tutor system, giving them a little more consideration, etc. 3) Contrary to the authors' expectation, they want to improve their Japanese ability through taking Japanese classes. 4) They think they are having difficulties because of their poor Japanese vocabulary and the lack of the basic knowledge about Japan.
