Ecosystems, productive engines of the planet-community, surround human beings as forests, grasslands, rivers and lakes, coasts, islands, seas, and mountains, and make the Earth habitable by purifying air and water, maintaining biodiversity, and decomposing and recycling nutrients. In the highly populated Asia and the Pacific Region, destruction of forests and deterioration of coastal and near-shore environments have become serious, due to high demand for food supplies and demographic movements toward the coastal districts, which have become significant since the Asia's economic expansions in 1980's and 1990's. Wise practices for population control and shift by each government, accompanied by strict control on environmental destructions, are necessary, with potential financial as well as technical supports by such international organizations as, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNDP, UNEP, FAO and so on.
