This article focuses on current French theater, based on pieces we were able to see in the 2001-2002 season. We discovered two tendencies in this season's program. The first is the rediscovery of a forgotten writer by the name of Georg Biichner, and in fact, we were able to see all of his pieces in Paris. Many actors and directors choose his works because they address a number of problems related to today's political situation. The second tendency is the twentieth century reinterpretation of classical works like those of Pirandello, Claudel, and Sartre. These pieces have also been forgotten for a long time, but we seem to understand their true meaning in recent years, which is why we refer to them. And lastly, we also discovered the difficulty of classical works, such as those of Racine, Moliere, and Hugo. We are able to see pieces by these writers every day, but now we begin looking for another possibility for their representation. In any case, it is important to view the pieces first-hand in order to understand current French theater, which changes from day to day.
