In order to conduct productive and meaningful language lessons it is important to review and study a variety learning aspects associated with teaching English as a second language. Therefore, this review will be in three parts. First, this review will analyze the characteristics of learners. Second, it will analyze how learners process listening input. (Since I am teaching college level students, I will focus on learners at the intermediate level.) Third, this paper will look at the characteristics and development of tasks. By examining these three theoretical aspects of language learning in this manner, a solid framework on which to base listening and conversational lessons for the intermediate language learner will be established.
