In this paper an infinitely long circular cylindrical shell with internal pressure is regarded as being equipped with an elastic circular frame, one edge of the flange being jointed to the shell. In performing the calculation the assumption was made that the flange of the frame is also infinitely long, which is not unreasonable on the basis of the fact that the deformation decays very rapidly in the form of an exponential function of the distance. Calculation was carried out to obtain the deformation, which is axially symmetric both for the shell and for the frame, and the reactions (shearing forces normal to the surface P_1, P_2, P_3, bending moments M_1, M_2, M_3) between the shell and the frame under the condition of compatibility; that is, displacements and their derivatives of each part are continuous at the combination circle between the shell and the frame. Results for some particular cases are given in equations (21), (22) and (23).
