In the European classical philosophy issued from Descartes there has been an image of nature as a divine work that will never deteriorate. However, since the development of thermodynamics in the 19th century, we have become conscious that the self-reproductive power of nature is not infinite. For example, if we continue to give off carbon dioxide at the present rate, the environment will deteriorate in a fatal manner. The thought of fragile nature may have been, so to speak, a blind spot of the classical philosophy. In this paper the author tries to think of a possibility of environmental philosophy, with the key concept 'deterioration of nature'.
