This article aims at exploring anthropologically the theme of love and intimacy. It seems apparent from our everyday experiences that love and intimacy form the indispensable significance of our life. However, these have not been thoroughly dealt with as the main theme in anthropology. This article may contribute to anthropology as an exploration of a new field of study. It also intends to elucidate the limits of constructionism and to go beyond it by considering the articulation and the area where the articulation cannot reach. Since the so-called linguistic turn, social constructionism has been the main theoretical framework of anthropology. To take this into account, this article may possibly make the first step to innovate the whole theories of anthropology for decades. In the first section I will position the theme in anthropology. The second section will briefly review studies concerning love and intimacy in social science including anthropology. Then finally I will discuss the theme by drawing on the data from my fieldwork since 1979.
