This study aims to clarify the characteristics of the temples built under the Later Chalukyas of Kalyani in south India, in terms of walls, compared with the concept written in Vastusastra, the traditional text of Indian Architecture, and spatial composition. The walls of Later Chalukyan temples are composed of several parts, i.e., adisthana (basement), bhitti (wall proper), tala (tires of the superstructure) and so on, from the elevation, and bhadra (central offset), karna (corner division), pratiratha (wall offset flanking bhadra) from the plan. The design of the wall not only represents of the concept written in Vastusastra, but also strongly emphasizes the symbolism of Vedic concept which implies superimposed layer. And the division of the wall is corresponding to the spatial composition of the temple.
