The fine structures of pollen grains of 12 genera and 31 species included in Gesneriaceae, were investi- gated with a scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows: 1. Pollen grains of all plants observed were monograin and ellipsoidal in shape. They had three striated grooves, i. e. germination apparatus. 2. Pollen grains were small in size in the range of 20〜40μ in length. 3. Many of the plants had minute meshwork on their surfaces, but a few of them had holes, or were smooth. Minute granules were sometimes observed on the surfaces of the pollen grains in several plants. 4. Phylogenetic relationships were discussed based on the pollen morphology.
