A new species of Scrophularia, S. grayanoides, was described in this paper. It is closely related to S. grayana MAXIM. in having conical roots, dark purple labiate corollas, and ovoid capsules. However, it can be clearly distinguished from S. grayana by characters such as smaller stems, the presence of lateral inflorescence, the absence of alata on the stem angles, and different distribution. Scrophularia grayanoides distributes in coastal region of Rikuchu district southwards to Matsushima in Rikuzen district. The northernmost locality known at the present is Miyako in the Rikuchu district. It rarely grows in mountainous areas, especially along the basin of rivers flowing into the Pacific Ocean. Unless otherwise indicated, the specimens cited in this paper are preserved in the herbarium of the University of Iwate.
