Teaching Staffs of department of medical technology of our college organized a meeting on the latest national examination in medical technology, in an attempt to raise student morale for study at an early stage of exam preparation by giving information and experience on the scene. The meeting, held in April, 1995, consisted of a symposium and personal counsel and was attended by 85 third year class students at our department. Five examinees served as speakers of the symposium. They were chosen from among those with different backgrounds of attainments: a top class student; an upper class student whose attainments have been improved much during the preceding years; a student with a unique way of studying; a student who has successfully managed to pass at the third trial; and so on. They addressed their junior students on their own experience and advice from a variety of angles. After the meeting, participants were asked to submit a report on their impression of the symposium and also to fill out questionnaires so as to enable us to summarize the status of students as future examinees. The survey revealed that prior to the meeting, almost half of the student had little or no information on the exam. Having poor information, they felt a vague anxiety or failed to stir up the fire of impetus, while after the event, the greater majority, reaching up to 94 %, was conscious of their situation and took the exam seriously to some extent, and 88 % of them considered the meeting to be timely and worth practicing. As the speech by examinees was based on their own personal experience, the audience was deeply impressed by their words. Thus the speech and advice served as a guide to examination, remained vivid in their memory, and led them to reflect upon the immediate future when they would gather with a common purpose of challenging the exam.
