A Study on the Exercise Electrocardiogram of the Elementary School Boys

The authors studied on the physiological variations of the exercise electrocardiogram with elementary school boys. The precordial bipolar lead was adopted and the electrocardiogram was recorded continuously from the beginning of exercise to 10 minutes after exercise. The step test which was one of the sports tests for elementary school children by the Japanese Ministry of Education, was employed as exercise. The following results were obtained from this study: 1) The time course of heart rate was similar to the results studied by many investigators, and it might be considered that this step test was good for the endurance test for elementary school boys. 2) The QT interval and the QTT interval-this was from the onset of Q wave to the top of T wave-were measured and compared with one another. Both were shortened during exercise and at the end of exercise they were minimum values. QTT interval prolonged once over the resting level, while QT interval did not recover the resting level in the duration of recovery process. As it was difficult that the end of T wave was decided, so the authors recommended the utilization of QTT interval at the exercise electrocardiogram. 3) The QTc and the QTTc were calculated and they drew similar curves of variation. Namely, they were maximum value at the beginning of exercise, minimum value at 1 minute after exercise, the same as resting value at 2 minutes after exercise and then prolonged slightly. 4) The variations of T wave were classified into four types. During exercise, it changed to flat T wave except 2 cases. 5) The variations of ST segment were recognized on 7 boys, but they were in the normal range. 6) During and immediately after exercise, the P wave became taller, but could not measure it exactly.
