(1) The spectral sensitivity of the honey-bee eyes was investigated by recording the electroretinograms. Spectral response curves in the visible region were obtained by the spectral scanning method. (2) In the worker compound eye, the spectral sensitivity curve in the dark adapted state has a broad peak in the green-orange region (550-600 nm) and under selective colored adaptation it breaks into three components with λmax. at 450, 500 and 550 nm. In the drone compound eye, the spectral sensitivity maximum is at about 450 nm and is not affected by colored adapting lights. The dorsal ocelli of both worker and drone display a blue-green element, which is not affected by colored adapting lights. (3) In the spectrophotometry of the extracted visual pigment absorption curves of same λmax. were obtained in compound eye and ocellus. The honey-bee has a visual substance with λmax. at about 450 nm. (4) The spectral transmittance of the corneal lens of all kinds of eyes had no significant difference from ultraviolet (360 nm) to visible region (560 nm). (5) The relation between the spectral sensitivity maxima and the absorption maxima of the retinal extract was considered.
