The crystal structure of p-iodobenzamide has been determined from two-dimensional X-ray data. Crystals are monoclinic with four molecules in a unit cell of dimensions a=31.37_1, b=5.30_4, c=4.93_6 A; β=107.8°_∂ The space group is P2_1/a. It is found that hydrogen bonds connect pairs of molecules into centrosymmetrical dimers which are themselves linked by further hydrogen bonds into endless chains extended along the c axis.
