The diffusion index method, which is a prediction method of heavy-type floor impact sound, is now widely used in architectural design. The purpose of a present study is improvement of the estimation accuracy on the diffusion index, that is the most important factor of this method. The diffusion index is estimated base on the number of natural modes of floor slabs. In this study, two weighting coefficients on both the impact location and cut-off characteristics of an octave band filter, are introduced to taking count of the natural modes in the octave band. Hence, it is clarified that this method is much better in estimation of the diffusion index than the former method.
