A combined-cycle power-generation plant using gas turbines is regarded as a major power facility in thermal power generation because of high efficiency and so on. On the other hand, hot parts including gas turbine cooling blades that are exposed to high temperature combustion gas suffer damages, and those may be replaced or repaired frequently. High efficiency of the plant is apt to be offset by the maintenance costs for the hot parts. Accordingly, a prediction method of those lives must be established. Evaluation of the temperature distribution of the parts is essential for the accurate prediction of their lives. Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) has been tackling numerical prediction of the temperature distribution of the gas turbine cooling blade by using CFD, in order to evaluate its life. This paper reports on an aspect of the CFD applied to gas turbine blades through illustrating those numerical calculations for temperature predictions of cooling blades in heavy duty power generation gas turbines.
