The theme of this essay is to think of the possibility of the future FD program in Japanese universities. I think that the cause of the difficulties in the education of Japanese universities lies in the dissonance between the academic culture and the mass society in Japan. In order to solve this problem, Japanese universities must know what the society, i.e. the students want them to do and to be. For that purpose it is necessary for them to make many sorts of cooperation among professors. I think that the essence of the activity of the university is the good relations among the professors and the relations between the professors and the students. So I propose two sorts of assessment of lectures by the students and by the colleague professors, and the combination of the two. In order to activate the universities it is necessary that not the administration of the university but the professors themselves, the relation and cooperation among them, are activated. This demands the new ED program in Japan. I suppose the following three points to be effective. 1. To abolish the ranking of the universities by the entrance examination. 2. To establish the new and Japanese theories of university cultures. 3. To diminish the administrative tasks of the professors.
