The principle of two terminal capacitance method has been adopted for the measurement of coefficient of linear thermal expansion of melt-casted polycrystalline films of potassium nitrate. The thermal expansion behaviour resembles closely with the bulk properties. The correction due to areal expansion of electrode film has been incorporated to evaluate true value of linear thermal expansion coefficient from the observed measurement. The thermal expansion anomalies at the two temperatures reveal the ferroelectric region in the cooling cycle. The narrow range of ferroelectric region is due to stress conditions of the sample film. The observations of the distinct changes in the value of α at transition temperatures have been discussed.
