The acoustic emission associated with tree growth in polyethylene was measured under an AC voltage. The acoustic emission and the partial discharge in the tree channels were compared, and it was found that the maximum charge of the partial discharge and the count rate of the acoustic emission are determined by the tree length. The count rate of the partial discharge pulses, however, is not determined by the tree length.
