The properties of coral gravelly soils are diverse and different kinds of shear tests are used for evaluating their strength. This study aims at evaluating the applicability of those testing methods, focusing on the physical properties of coral gravelly soils, such as fine fraction, clay fraction, silt fraction and plasticity index. Although the unconfined compression test is carried out even for nonplastic soils, the strength thus obtained is considered to be unreliable. The undrained triaxial test with pore water pressure measurements is highly recommended for those soils.
