A new method for phospholipid film deposition has been developed. Anionic phospholipids such as phosphatidyl serine (PS) and phosphatidyl acid (PA) were deposited by an electrodeposition method onto one side of quartzresonator platinum electrodes in an electrochemical cell, and the mass changes of these films were measured in situ by quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) technology. The QCMs with electrodeposition films were applicable to odor sensing both in gas phase and in liquid phase, whereas a conventional cast membrane was peeled off from the QCM surface and could not be used in liquid phase. Furthermore, the response of QCM with the electrodeposition film was much higher than that of QCM with a cast film in gas phase. The developed sensor has promising features in spite of its simple fabrication process.
