By the method of "Quantum Field Theory" (Q.F.T.), it is shown that the quantization of the electromagnetic field in a despersive medium (classixal dielectric) by the procedure of Q.F.T. is equicalent to introducing a normaliz field amplitude (annihilation operator)C_κ in such a phenomenological way that the field energy W takes the normal form;[numerical formula] Here ε(ω_κ) is the dielectric response function of the medium, E_κ is the electric field intensity of the field with frequency ω_κ and wave vector K, 〓 planck's cpmstamt, and C^+_κ the Hermitian conjugate to C_κ. The field momentum is discussed with the momentum of the centre of mass of the medium taken into account.
