On the Aberration of Spectacle Lens

• It has been recognized that astigmatism has to be eliminated in spectacle lenses. It is shown in the present work, however, that a spectacle lens free from astigmatism can be, and usually is, accompanied by coma of a considerable magnitude. Calculations of astigmatism and coma are carried out by means of an electronic computer. The results are given in contour maps. A method for designing good spectacle lenses based on these maps is described.
